A chance conversation at GLEE13 has led to the collaboration of two energetic family firms as Haxnicks joins The Tildenet Group this month.

“We’ve just returned from our busiest ever week at Chelsea, meeting our Agriframes customers and hearing how much the quality of our products matter to them” says Tildenet MD, Andrew Downey. “After seeing Damian’s passion for the industry over many years it was clear to me that Haxnicks would be the perfect complement to our existing business. Joining forces gives us the opportunity to introduce another superb range to our existing clients and work with Damian and his design team to develop more of the innovative and accessible products that they are so well known for.”

Damian Cardozo launched Haxnicks nearly 20 years ago on a tiny stand at GLEE with just a single product – his home produced solar bell cloche – which proved so popular that his family were called into 24 hour production to meet the international demand. From those small beginnings Haxnicks have developed a category of award winning plant protection which continues to appeal across the board, whilst maintaining the resilience, energy and drive which are so often central to family businesses and that Cardozo recognised in Tildenet ; “This is a great match for us” says Damian “our team have been fully integrated into the team at Tildenet and their enthusiasm to build new markets for Haxnicks products is infectious! Tildenet will be taking over the manufacture of our Bell Cloches and Rootrainers which will give us the opportunity to make use of over 60 years of combined manufacturing expertise to ensure that our customers continue to enjoy the quality they expect – I recently spoke to a commercial grower who has been using our Rootrainers in his business and is renewing them now for the first time in over 10 years – That’s fantastic to hear!”

For the Tildenet Group, who operate across the gardening, horticulture, sporting and industrial sectors, service levels to their customers, and those of Haxnicks, during the transition are crucial and Downey is keen to reassure :
“We know how important it is for our customers to have confidence in our ability to supply, no matter whether they prefer a pre-season or just-in-time approach, and we have a large sales team on the road making sure that each gets personalised service to suit their needs. We have made a £500,000 investment in Haxnicks stock and developed 50,000sq feet of additional warehousing at our Bristol headquarters in order to maintain the 98% fulfillment rate that we are proud of.”
At their West Country bases both Andrew and Damian are enthused by the new opportunities ahead “This is a very exciting time for us and our customers. We are both forward thinking companies, both embracing new technologies with the aim of offering exceptional service, value and quality” says Downey.

Looking to the future, the talk is of product development, prototypes and new approaches to manufacturing process. As the finishing touches are put to the new Tildenet Catalogue and the final decisions made on product launches for GLEE14, Haxnicks is certainly looking very much at home alongside the other successful Tildenet brands - With two ambitious and dynamic directors at the helm there is promise of much more to come.
