Cork County have been announced winners of the 2016 Tildenet Club of the Year Award after a superb season for the Munster club in which, in addition to winning the Leinster Division Two title, they also retained the Munster Premier Division title.

The award was particularly hotly contested this year after an extremely competitive and exciting season in club cricket across Ireland, with Clontarf, Ardmore, Fox Lodge, Ballyspallen, Laois, Ringcommons and Kerry all shortlisted alongside Cork County.

There was much to celebrate at the awards ceremony in Dublin last week where Tildenet’s George Bassett presented the trophy, with significant successes for Irish cricket in 2016, both on and off the field.

Cricket Ireland have launched an ambitious five-year plan to become a mainstream sport in Ireland, with the goal of taking the game to new audiences and beginning to rival the popularity of football, rugby and Gelic games by 2020. This year they have moved one step closer to achieving the dream of fielding a Test team after the International Cricket Council awarded the country's domestic competition first-class status.

Tildenet have been enthusiastic supporters of Irish Cricket since the beginning of their commercial partnership in 2012. The Tildenet brand has grown in Ireland since the start of the partnership and includes the sponsorship of the Irish Club of the Year which is part of the Cricket Ireland Annual Awards. As well as providing the winning club with €1,000 worth of product Tildenet also provide a 15% discount, ex carriage, to all Cricket Ireland affiliated clubs and schools on the full range of Tildenet products as part of their commitment to support the grassroots cricket in Ireland and elsewhere.

England will host Ireland for the first time in an international fixture next summer, with two Royal London One-Day Internationals. The fixtures will kick off the 2017 international season with Tildenet home city, Bristol, hosting the first encounter on Friday May 5th at the Brightside Ground and Lord’s staging the second match on Sunday May 7th.

The two-match series will create cricketing history as Ireland have never before taken on England in this country and Tildenet look forward to using the occasion to introduce the Cricket Ireland side to some of our youngest local cricketers in collaboration with the Educate Together Academy Trust.
